Albert Leffingwell, Leffingwell Record: a genealogy of the descendants of Lieut. Thomas Leffingwell, one of the founders of Norwich, Conn., 82-83.
"Elizabeth Coit Lathrop, b. at New London, April 16, 183, and in 1897 was living with her daughter at Orange, N. J. She m. Sept. 18, 1831, Rev. Samuel Hutchings, D. D., of New York City (b. in New York, Sept. 15, 1806; grad. Williams College 1828). They sailed in 1833 for Ceylon as missionaries, where they labored eleven years, or until failure of his health compelled return to this country. He settled as pastor at Brookfield, Mass., and Newark, N.J., and engaging in literary work, contributed over 1,200 articles to the revised American edition of Chambers' Encyclopædia. He d. at Orange, N. J., Sept. 1, 1895, within 17 days of the 64th anniversary of his marriage." Source then lists children.

"[Samuel Hutchins] graduated at Union College, in 1828, and studied theology. In July 1833, they sailed for Ceylon under appointment as missionaries of the American board. There they remained devoted to missionary work for eleven years, when the failure of his health compelled their return to this country."
