Notes - Phyllis graduated from Bridgewater Teachers College in 1938. She taught first and second grades in Brewster, Massachusetts, and then in Cotuit until 1941. Following her marriage, she continued teaching and in 1947 was one of the founders and workers in the first cooperative Kindergarten/nursery school in the town of Barnstable.
Her focus on children continued as a den mother and a Girl Scout leader. She attended the Cotuit Federated Church, serving on the Religious Education Committee, Diaconte, as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Cotuit Women's Fellowship since 1942. She was also a past member of the Osterville Garden Club and the Order of the Eastern Star.
As an accomplished artist in watercolor and sculpture, she was a member of the Cape Cod Art Association, the Venice Area Art League and the Sumi-e Society of America.
