• Notes

  Benjamin received a B.A. degree from the University of Illinois, followed by a Ph. M. (Master degree in Philosophy) from the University of Chicago in 1900. He studied under John Dewey, the leader of the new educational movement for school and society. He accepted a position in 1902 in the Arizona Territory as a teacher of history at Tempe Normal School, now known as Arizona State University. He later became the Superintendent of schools in the Arizona Territory.
