Notes - Erastus was a Civil War veteran. According to his induction papers, he stood six feet five inches tall. In the 1880 census, he is listed as being born about 1845. He served the Union forces in Company E, 54 Indiana Infantry, enlisting 10 June 1862. He was mustered out in Indianapolis 10 September 1862. This regiment was organized as a three months' regiment at Indianapolis and was mustered in 10 June 1862 being placed on duty at Camp Morton. It moved to Kentucky in August to assist in repelling the invasion by Gen. Kirby Smith, and was mustered out in Sept. 1862.
