  This quote about Elizabeth is from Across the Devil's Belt, p. 69–70: "Early researchers were apparently confused by the use of second names beside each daughter in Will Scudder's will. On the basis of baptism records, it appears that the second name was actually a marriage name.... "The husband of Elizabeth 'Wordell' is more difficult to ascertain. The name is probably 'Wardell' since several families were neighbors of the Scudders in Mt. Pleasant. Eliakim and Stephen were heads of those families. Records allow the elimination of Eliakim but Stephen, who seems to be the correct man, disappears from the local records."
