Notes - ATTENTION: much error has been given for the mother of Rev. John Lothrop because people have mixed 2 different men named Thomas Lothrop or Lathrop. Will address the other different family at the end of this information for the correct father and mother. From A Genealogical Memoir of the Lo-Lathrop Family, pp 17-19.

*The Lo-Lathrop Memoir published in 1884 was correct by clearly distinguishing between Thomas Lothrop of Cherry Burton and Etton, Yorkshire who md. 3 times (pp 17–20), and the younger and different Thomas Lathrop of Bramshall, Yorkshire who md. Mary Salte. Despite this comprehensive work based on primary sources covering many generations, a fraudulent "genealogist" by the name of Gustave Anjou, soon thereafter inaccurately made a genealogy that gave the wife of Thomas Lathrop of Staffordshire to Thomas Lothrop of Yorkshire. Thus began the error of making Mary Salte the mother of Rev. John Lothrop which was completely false. Clifford L. Stott addressed this error in 1995 in "Appendix: Angevin Errors," The American Genealogist, v. 70 (October 1995): 250–252. In 1991,
Gordon Remington had already exposed Anjou's frauds in "Gustave we hardly knew ye: A Portrait of Herr Anjou as a Jungberg," Genealogical Journal; v. 19 (1991), pp 59–70.
**The other Thomas Lathrop of Bramshall and Leigh Staffordshire, b. about 1560 and died 1614, as shown by his pedigree in the Memoir on p. 10, was the son of John Lathrop and Alice Lilly in the line of Michael Laythrope. That Thomas married Mary Salte, b. about 1562, daughter of Robert Salte and Gauche St. Andrews, also included in the pedigree on pages 10–11.
