Recent scholarship is the John Lothrop bio in Robert Charles Anderson, The Great Migration, v. 4, I-L, 345–351. Link below.
A Genealogical Memoir of the Lo-Lathrop Family, p. 17–42. Cited in Sources.
CAUTION: This source published in 1884, and if it had been used, would have eliminated much of the misinformation about the Lothrop/Lathrop family online. The one item for Rev. John Lothrop's family that has since been corrected from the Memoir appears Clifford L. Stott, The American Genealogist, (October 1995): 252.

Stott corrected Rev. John Lothrop's mother's name from Mary ____? to Maud as per her burial record.
The old error that the Rev. John Lothrop's mother was Mary Salte would never have been made if people had read this source. The Memoir clearly shows that Mary Salte married a different Thomas Lathrop and not Rev. John Lothrop's father. On pages 9–11, the Memoir clearly shows that it is was a very different Thomas Lathrop of Bramshall, Staffordshire who married wife Mary Salte of Yoxall, Staffordshire. Many databases and online trees continue to perpetuate the errors because the original research sources are not being consulted.
The recent scholarly treatment of Rev. John Lothrop is in "The Great Migration." See it cited in Sources. It is in agreement with the Memoir for the wives and children of Rev. John Lothrop and gives his correct father.
