    • Tom graduated from Mississippi State University in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was very involved in numerous activities where he was the Vice President of American Society of Civil Engineers, MSU Track Team, Sigma Chi fraternity, and Distinguished Military Graduate. Mr. Worthington was commissioned in the United States Army at the age of 20 during the Korean War. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in command of a 90mm Anti-Aircraft Gun Battery in the 67th Battalion, 7th Army. After his military service, Mr. Worthington began his career working for M and W Construction in Tupelo, MS. He later moved to Murfreesboro where he owned and operated Worthington Construction Company for 32 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Murfreesboro where he served as a Deacon and an Elder before transferring his membership to Beech Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was involved in local and state politics and served on the Rutherford County Industrial Bond Board. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of Citizens Central Bank. He was a devoted supporter of Mississippi State University in many different capacities – Alumni Association, MSU Foundation, Bulldog Club, and various committees. He was a staunch conservative and patriot and maintained an avid interest in reading, especially military history.
