  Jack grew up in Clarendon helping work the family farm. He graduated from Clarendon High School and Clarendon College. He later went on to attend Texas Tech University. Heserved in the United States Marine Corp during WWII. The couple moved to Amarillo in 1957, and he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 41 years retiring in 1987.
