  Doris graduated from Bay City High School and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She was a kindergarten teacher in Houston, the Panama Canal Zone and San Antonio. She was an active member of Alamo Heights Presbyterian Church, long time member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, a San Antonio Botanical garden volunteer and served on the Woodmont Homeowners Association. In addition to world-wide travels, Doris was also a devoted pet guardian and generous supporter of numerous Christian charities.
