Notes - Dispute about Deborah's identity. Deborah, wife of Simon Newcomb, has been cited by some as Deborah Lathrop and assigned as a child to Samuel and Elizabeth (Scudder) Lathrop. No such child Deborah appears in their family in "A Genealogical Memoir of the Lo-Lathrop Family" by E. B. Huntington. There is no documentary proof of relationship to these parents found elsewhere. She is "Deborah" unknown until better documentation but left here as Deborah "not Lathrop" if people are looking for her in the database under Lathrop but is detached from Lathrop parents so their family remains accurate as documented. "Genealogical Memoir of the Newcomb Family" p. 26 cites Simon Newcomb's wife as Deborah. "His wife, Deborah—, whom he married about 1687, and with whom he lived for 58 years, d. in L. [Lebanon] June 17, 1756, in her 92d year."

Consideration: Apparently in all those years, no clue surfaced to prove any relationship to Lathrops.
Prior genealogist's note:Deborah's parents may have been Samuel Lathrop and Elizabeth Scudder. However, many Lathrop genealogies don’t include a daughter Deborah. All of Deborah’s Lathrop siblings were born in Connecticut, while Deborah was supposed to be born in Martha’s Vineyard. Simon did have property in Lebanon, Connecticut. Some genealogies state that her parents were Samuel William Buell and Deborah Griswold. However, their Deborah Beuell married Nathaniel Porter in 1710 in Killingworth, Connecticut.
