Notes - Edward's early education was acquired in the public schools of Jackson and De— troit, to which latter city he removed in 1887. He was a member of the class of 1897 of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He started his business career in the Detroit plant of the American Radiator Company in 1896, where he served an apprenticeship at molding. coremaking, as a machinist and in. the chemical laboratory for three years.
In 1899, Edward had entire charge of putting in operation the first foreign plant of the Company, which was located in Dole, France. In 1901 he was made secretary of the Operating Board of the Company with headquarters in Chicago and given general charge of the foundry and of all their American plants. He was manager of the Detroit plant from 1902 until 1910, when he was made general representative of the American Radiator Company of Michigan, with the title of Secretary and Treasurer, and offices at 816 Penobscot Building.
