  • Notes
    • Louis spent his youth and school years in the United States and Great Britain. In 1892 he entered the College of Commerce in and after graduating he became a merchant. He also worked a few years in the Dutch East Indies. He was a successful merchant and did financially well, especially in the diamant trade. After he married Anna Sumner, of a wealthy American family, they decided to settle in England and acquired the British nationality. In World War II, Louis, because he spoke German, was given a military commision as interrogator of the German prisoners of war. During the second part of the war the Redleaf manor was used by the army to encamp part of a battalion and the family lived in one of the houses on the estate.
