Notes - Nell received a music degree from Oklahoma University and taught piano there while completing her Bachelor of Arts degree.
During her years in Dallas, she served as hostess to many distinguished guests, ranging from diplomats and cabinet members to sheiks and scholars, who visited the DeGolyer home.
The DeGolyer residence contained a renowned library, which was later donated to Southern Methodist University. The home was also surrounded by colorful gardens to which Nell dedicated much time to maintaining.
Nell was the founder of Planned Parenthood of Dallas and later served as president of the national Planned Parenthood organization. She was a founding member of the League of Women Voters, and was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church for nearly 40 years. She was also a former member of Brook Hollow Golf Club.
