    • Jabez settled in Norwichtown, occupying a house on Sentry Hill Road. In 1749, he bought land and in 1754 brought 2 young elm trees fr. woods to shade his shop, now called the "Coit Elms." He was a leading patriot. On a committee to report on "Boston Circular" 1767. He was a contractor and dispenser of public stores. In 1776, he was authorized by General. Court to purchase ammunition of states man-of-war, "Oliver Cromwell" on which, in 1778, he was appointed Captain's clerk. In 1777, he was directed by the Governor to distribute 300 baskets of salt to inhabitants of Connecticut. In1782, he was a m ember of Assoc. after illicit trade. He was Gov. Trumbell's right-hand man throughout RevolutionaryWar and a member of the Perpetual Council of Safety.
