Notes - Alletah began her teaching career at 20 after graduating from the University of Arkansas. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and a writer for the school newspaper. She began teaching at Roosevelt Junior High School in San Diego in 1949, and later taught at San Diego and Madison high schools. She mostly taught English, but also taught special-education classes. She was head of the English department at both San Diego and Madison high schools.
Alletah also enjoyed writing poetry from an early age and was president of a poetry club in Fayetteville. She was published in various poetry anthologies. In 2001, she self-published a book of poems, "Studies in Seventeen." Haiku was her favorite form. and she would write 10 to 12 poems a day. She wrote until the day before her death.
