Notes - In 1816-1823, Isaac was apprenticed to a tanner in New Jersey. He came to Niagara County in 1823 but returned to buy and sell the business in Metuchen, New Jersey. Isaac, though a farmer, gave more attention to buying and selling property after he had improved it. In the course of his married life, he built and sold and lived on many farms in Niagara County and even went to Michigan with his family in 1836, to Calhoun County, where he bought a half section of land, expecting to divide it up and sell. In 1837, 60 acres of which were deeded to his brother, Shubal, in consideration of $1,000.
