  Gurdon was the eldest son of Azariah Lathrop and Abigail Huntington. E. B. Huntington, A Genealogical Memoir of the Lo-Lathrop Family in this Country, 78, 108. Gurdon graduated from Yale in 1787 and was a merchant in Norwich. He was probably a druggist; however, he became a member of the New London County Medical Association in 1793.
