Notes - Epenetus Smith signed the Articles of Association in 1775 along with many others in the Huntington area. The roster of a company of Minute Men raised at Smithtown and the eastern parts of Long Island shows that their enlistments began on 7 April 1776. Epenetus Smith was elected a lieutenant. He took part in the Battle of Long Island, also known as the Battle of Brooklyn.
