  Carrie was a graduate of Glenbard West High School, and received from Illinois Benedictine University, Lisle, both a B.S. in Nutrition and a M.P.H. in Public Health. In 2001 and 2002 she had served as a research coordinator to the Psychology Department at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. Returning to Illinois thereafter, she was in residential real estate; she lectured on various health topics, nutrition and fitness for Prairie Stone Sports in Hoffman Estates, and other organizations; and she was a banquet captain for Food Team Wheeling. She had served as coordinator for a Du Page chapter of Mothers and More for seven years, and as a den leader for Cub Scout Pack 7 in Glendale Heights.
