    • Julian was reared by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Scudder, and lived in Athens until June, 1892. He attended University of Georgia, 1890-1892, and was member Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Received B.L. degree, Lincoln-Jefferson University, 1912. 1892-95 was soliciting freight agent I. C. R. R., at Memphis, Tenn. 1895-1920 was assistant treasurer, and later manager, Mathieson Alkali Works ($10,000,000 corporation) Saltvllle, Virginia. Served as Mayor of Saltvllle 1909-20. Organized Saltville Bank, 1903; president and converted into First National Bank of Saltville. Other connections were as director of Raven Fuel Co., Virginia Banner Coal Corp., Laurel Fork & Mendota Ry. Co., President E. M. B. Association, Chairman Red Cross, Member Legal Advisory Board, Smith Co.; Chairman Liberty Loan campaigns. Is past master A. F. & A. M. No. 227, Virginia; past Eminent Commander K. T., Lynn No. 9, Virginia; Marion Chapter No. 54; Acca Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., Richmond, Va.

      Resigning all the above Julian returned to Athens, Georgia, October 1, 1920. Here he began at once active participation in business, financial and civic circles. He is prominently identified with the following leading institutions: Active Vice-President, Georgia National Bank; Vice-President and Treasurer, Mallison Braided Cord Co.; is a director in the Georgia National Bank, the Mallison Braided Cord Co., the American State Bank, the Broad Street Office American State Bank, the Guaranty Trust Corporation, and is a director of the Y. M. C. A., and Chairman of the Boys' Division; also member of the Rotary Club, is past President of Chamber of Commerce (1922), Chairman of Committee on Construction of New Schools (committee created by City Council.) Is an elder in the First Presbyterian Church and member of Shrine Club, Acca Temple, Mt. Vernon No. 22, Athens, Keystone No. 1, Athens, Godfrey de Boullion Commandery No. 14, and Cloverhurst Country Club.
