• Notes

  Lovingly remembered as "Charlie Bates," he became a minister of the Reformed Church and served very successfully in several pastorates in New Jersey. In November 1912, he resigned from the pulpit of Bay Ridge Reformed Church in Brooklyn to work for his father-in-law, the President of Janeway & Carpender, makers of wallpaper in New Brunswick.
