  Peter graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, and attended Harvard University. During World War II, he served for five years, including with the Fifth Armored Division in the European Theater. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and was honorably discharged as a Captain, Armor.Peter spent most of his business career in advertising and marketing with such firms as J. Walter Thompson, General Foods and Lever Brothers in New York. He came to South Carolina in 1958 with Henderson Advertising of Greenville. Later he was associated with Advertising, Inc., also of Greenville. Following retirement, he volunteered for seven years at the Hilton Head Hospital. He also did voluntary work for Providence Presbyterian Church, of which he was a founding member.
