Notes - Hugh was deeply involved in the Ravenna and wider Portage County community, serving on the Board of Trustees of Robinson Memorial Hospital from 1951 to 1988. During his business career, he founded the Warner-Riddle manufacturing firm in 1946. Parts made at Warner-Riddle were on the space suits worn by the Mercury astronauts and civilian and military aircraft in the 1960s. Warner-Riddle also successfully exported machine tools to Japan. I n 1947, along with Neil Mann, he founded Allen Aircraft Co.
During his tenure on the board of the hospital, which included 12 years as chairman of the board, Hugh participated in additions to the old hospital on South Chestnut Street, and the building of the new hospital on North Chestnut Street which opened in 1977. After his retirement from the board, the trustee meeting room was named in his honor.
A 1988 recipient of the Ravenna Area Chamber of Commerce Raven Award, Hugh previously served on the chambers Board of Directors. He was inducted into the Ravens Hall of Fame in 1993.
