  • Notes
    • E. B. Huntington, A Genealogical Memoir of the Lo-Lathrop Family in this country, p. 58–59, 61.
"[Simon's] will is dated April 2, 1772, and names as his legatees, wife Martha; son Elijah; son Rufus; daughter Martha Devotion of Windham; daughter Mary Bingham, to whom were given the land and buildings bought of Col. John Dyer in Canterbu; Eunice Huntington; Lucy Fitch; granddaughter Hannah Truman; grandson David Nevins; and granddaughter Eunice Carew, and her husband, Ebeneezer Carew.
"In the distribution of widow Martha Lathrop's estate, April 20, 1776, the legatees named are: Elijah and Rufus Lathrop; Eunice Huntington; Mary Bindham; Hannah Truman; and grandson Simon Fitch.
"His death occurred Jan. 25, 1774, and that of his widow Oct. 16, 1775. Their remains lie interred side by side interred in the Norwich Town burying ground."

       Edwin L. Soper, comp., "Elizabeth Scudder [E]...Some Descendants," Scudder Searches, v. 4, no. 1, (Winter 1992), 5–6.

      Previous genealogist wrote:
Simon was a prominent character in the history of Norwich, commander of one of the Connecticut regiments in the expedition against Annapolis and Louisburg, and at one time in the chief command of the fortress at Cape Breton. At the time of the famous Mason controversy about the Indian lands, the second Court of Commissioners met at his house for two days in 1743. This must have been an exciting time for the neighborhood, when all the distinguished men of the colony assembled here, crowds of people whose lands were involved in the dispute, driving in from the neighboring towns, and the whole tribe of Mohegan Indians hovering about, for whom the sympathizing Lathrops, Huntingtons, Leffingwells, Tracys, and other leading citizens kept open house during the proceedings.
