  • Notes
    • In early Massachusetts court documents, Hannah became the custodian of her sister's daughter, Alice Pierce, either because Mrs. Rebecca ____? Pierce was ill or deceased. The girl was baptised in Barnstable 21 July 1650, and married by 1670, John Baker.
"Alice, daughter of Abraham Peirce of Plimoth, beeing brought hither by Goody Scudder, his wives Syster and here baptized July 21, 1650."
See "Scituate and Barnstable Church Records," The New England Historical & Genealogical Register," volume 9, no. 3, (July 1855): 284.

"'Alice, daughter of Abraham Peirce of Plimouth, being brought hither by Goody Scudder, his wife's sister and here baptized July 21, 1650. Goody Scudder was evidently the wife of John Scudder of Barnstable. Her first name may have been Hannah. That her sister took her youngest child implies that either Rebecca was ill, unable to nurse, or deceased following the birth."
