  Charles and his live-in companion, Joseph Odum, were murdered in Charles' home, Corpsewood Manor, by two men, Kenney Avery Brock and Samuel Tony West. The two killers claimed that Charles and Joseph were homosexual devil worshipers. Charles and Joseph had come to Georgia in 1976 from Chicago where Charles had been a professor of pharmacology at Loyola University.
