Notes - John received his degree of M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1809, and practiced medicine in Freehold. His father was one of the signers of the petition to the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1777.
From 1821 to 1827, John was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly. He was also a State Senator in 1825, and a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. For many years he was an elder of the Old Tennent Church, where his father had preached for many years.
