• Notes

  Charles was educated at the Smith Academy and Wyman Institute, later called Western Military Academy. After leaving school, he began his business career with the Hargadine-McKittrick Dry Goods Company. Later, he was for six years secretary of the Clark & Stuyvesant Grocery Company. In 1897, he joined in the organization of the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, becoming president. He also was director of the Union Dairy Company.
