    • At the time of the 1900 census, George had been unemployed for about six months. He was boarding in Dalton, Massachusetts, along with Ray Scofield, and they told the census taker that they were on their way to Nome, Alaska. From the beginning of World War I until the 1920 census, George was employed as a librarian for the Christian Science Library in Los Angeles, California. In 1930, still single, he was living in the Elmar Hotel, 235 S. Hope Street, in Los Angeles, and working as a librarian at a public library.
