Notes - At the time Fayette first became interested in fire matters, he was proprietor of a jewelry store in the village of Huntington, the only photographer in the village, a choir master of one of the churches (Central Presbyterian), and actively engaged in school matters. His jewelry store was in the "Empire Block" east of Wall St. in Huntington. He was also a good musician and constructed pipe organs. He was one of the organizers of the Huntington fire department in the 1850's and was a charter member of the Jephtha Masonic Lodge. In 1865 he served as the local postmaster.
